Out of every vitamin out there that you’ve heard of, you probably know the least about vitamin K benefits & side effects. In fact, many people do not know what vitamin K is or what it does. Simply put, vitamin K is produced in our bodies, the intestines specifically, and it aids in the absorption of calcium we ingest from food. This vitamin is also essential in helping people form blood clots after being injured.

K isn’t one of the most abundant of the nature made vitamins. Although it can be found in lower levels in some foods, it acts almost like vitamin D, as it is basically inert until our bodies process it and actually develop it.

Soybeans and some fortified cereals also contain high levels of K, but it is mainly produced by the bacteria living inside of our gastrointestinal tracts. That’s why it is important to eat correctly in order to produce significant levels of vitamin K.
For most people, there are no real adverse side effects of having too much vitamin K, even if you are taking it in pure supplemental form. The only potential danger is that vitamin K supplements may actually conflict with your medication. If you are on blood thinners, for example, vitamin K might counteract their effectiveness.
